Charles was born in 1811 in Legbourne, Lincolnshire, England and his baptism took place there on July 7th, 1811.  Charles' father was Mr James Kirk and his mother was Mrs Mary Parker?. He had six brothers and three sisters, named John, William, Thomas, Robert, James, Nathanael, Elizabeth, Mary and Mary.  He was the fifth youngest of the ten children.
