Robert was born in 1712 in Slains, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  Robert's father was Mr James Gibson and his mother was Mrs Jean Cuming.  His maternal grandparents were Mr Alexander Cuming and Mrs NK NK. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Alexander, James, William, George, Margaret, Isobel, Elizabeth and Isobel.  He was the oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 1 in 1713 in Slains, Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
