Alexander was born in 1713 in Slains, Aberdeenshire, Scotland and his baptism took place there on November 22nd, 1713.  Alexander's father was Mr James Gibson and his mother was Mrs Jean Cuming.  His maternal grandparents were Mr Alexander Cuming and Mrs NK NK. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, James, William, George, Margaret, Isobel, Elizabeth and Isobel.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 79 in 1792 in Scones Lethendy, Perthshire, Scotland.
