Elizabeth was born in 1872.  Elizabeth's father was Joseph Matthew Brown and her mother was Lavinia Whittaker.  Her paternal grandparents were John Brown and Elizabeth. She had two brothers and two sisters, named John, Joseph, Mary and Ann.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
