Georg Burckhard was born on December 23rd, 1746 in Enkirch and his baptism took place there on December 25th, 1746.  Georg Burckhard's father was Johann "Peter" Lauff and his mother was Maria Elisabetha Creutzer.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Georg Lauff and Agnes Catharina Fuchs. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Johann Christian, Johann Daniel, Carl Friedrich Daniel, Johann Philipp, Frantz Daniel, Dorothea Elisabetha, Anna Elisabeth and Maria Elisabetha.  He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.
