Carl Friedrich Daniel was born on June 18th, 1744 in Enkirch and his baptism took place there on June 28th, 1744.  Carl Friedrich Daniel's father was Johann "Peter" Lauff and his mother was Maria Elisabetha Creutzer.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Georg Lauff and Agnes Catharina Fuchs. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Johann Christian, Johann Daniel, Georg Burckhard, Johann Philipp, Frantz Daniel, Dorothea Elisabetha, Anna Elisabeth and Maria Elisabetha.  He was the fifth oldest of the nine children.
