Frantz Daniel was born on March 25th, 1758 in Enkirch and his baptism took place there on March 26th, 1758.  Frantz Daniel's father was Johann "Peter" Lauff and his mother was Maria Elisabetha Creutzer.  His paternal grandparents were Johann Georg Lauff and Agnes Catharina Fuchs. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Johann Christian, Johann Daniel, Carl Friedrich Daniel, Georg Burckhard, Johann Philipp, Dorothea Elisabetha, Anna Elisabeth and Maria Elisabetha.  He was the youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 1 on January 12th, 1760 in Enkirch.
