George Edward James Northmore Hoodless was born in Plymouth on the 3 April1902. The second son of JameHoodless and Jane nee Oades. He was christened at StPeters Church Plymouth. His elder brother was Charles who was almost 13 years older. As far as is known there were no other children between. The day before
George's 4th birthday another brother, Ernest was born. There were no more children. George was very good at art, which was a family trait and he did a tone time attend art school.  He took a six year apprenticeship at Willoughbys
of Plymouth for Electrical Engineering. He worked in the Dockyard at Devonport as an electrical fitter. He married Candace Myrtle Jennings at St Peters church  14 Jul 1928. Their son Melville George was born 11 Sept 1929 then a daughter,  Sylvia Candace born 12 Sept 1931  and another daughter was born several years later,  Darla Mae arrived 21 Feb 1945.George died of lung cancer at the early age of 54. He died at 17 Arundel Cres,Plymouth on 12 Dec 1956 and was buried at Efford Cemetery Plymouth.
Most working people only had one weeks holiday a year. George and his family usually spent their week travelling by train on what was called 'runabout tickets' (a seven day concessiionary ) to Paignton, Torquay, Dawlish, Teignmouth etc. It was the highlight of the year.
One of George's hobbies was mending watches. There were always little pots and boxes with springs and coils and hands and watch faces. Workmates would give him their clocks and watches to mend and he would sit for hours with his eyeglass and tweezers etc and always seemed to be able to put the timepieces back in working order.
