Maria Charlotte's baptism took place on June 16th, 1829 in Buckland Mon., Devon, England.1 Maria Charlotte's father was Joseph LANGMAN and her mother was Ann NORTHMORE. Her maternal grandparents were James NORTHMORE and Ann SPURRELL. She had a brother and three sisters, named Joseph, Barbara Northmore, Elizabeth and Mary Ann Northmore. Maria Charlotte Langman was baptised 16 Jun 1829 at Buckland Monochorum, Devon. She was the second child of Joseph Langman and Ann (nee Northmore). Nothing is known of her early life. She married Richard Worden Oades at Buckland Monochorum 25 Apr 1859. The couple moved to Plymouth and lived in the Wyndham Square area and had five children, two of whom died when very young. She was left a widow in 1887 when Richard died in the fever hospital. Her grandson, Charles Hoodless often told stories about her and it is thought that she was probably a great influence in his early life. He was with her on one occasion when they were passing a marquee and there was a demonstration of an early phonograph. Charles was no doubt fascinated but she was obviously not convinced as she told him to take no notice and come away as it was just someone hiding under the table.
Maria 27 Jul 1905 and is buried at Ford Park Cemetery, Plymouth. For some unknown reason she is in a different grave than her husband.
