George OADES 
George's baptism took place on December 26th, 1785 in South Tawton, Devon, England.1 George's father is William OADES and his mother is Jane MADDERS. His paternal grandparents are Richard OADES and Deborah BATTISHILL; his maternal grandparents are John MADDERS and Elizabeth BEARE. He had three brothers named John, Richard and William Madders. He died in May 1855 in Bickleigh, Nr Plymouth, Devon, England. He was buried on May 29th, 1855 in Bickleigh, Nr Plymouth, Devon, England.1 1 General Notes

George Oades was baptised at South Tawton, Devon on the 26 Dec 1785 and was the son of William Oades and Jane Madders. He followed a family trade and became a shoemaker. It is not certain when he left South Tawton but he married Alice Worden at Stoke Damerell Church, near Plymouth 9 Jun 1816 and they settled near the parish of Bickleigh near Plymouth, The couple had six children, George (Nov 1816) Jane (Aug 1820) William (May 1823) Richard Worden (Sep 1825) Elizabeth (Mar 1829) and Ann Warn (Feb 1836). George was an active member of tbe parish council at Bickleigh as his sigmature appears on many of the parish documents. He died in May 1855 and is buried in Bickleigh Churchyard. There is a headstone which reads.....
"In memory of George Oades who died 24th may 1856 aged 71 years. An affectionate husband, a kind father and sincere friend. Also three of his beloved children. Likewise Elizabeth Worden who died 18th Sep 1844 aged 101 years."
Note. Elizabeth Worden (mentioned above) was Georges mother-in-law. There is no mention of his wife Alice being in the same grave.
George and Alice were married in a religious ceremony on June 9th, 1816 in Stoke Damerell, Plymouth, Devon, England.1 They had three sons and three daughters, named George, Richard Worden, William, Ann Warn, Elizabeth and Jane.
