John HENDRA 
John was born on February 6th, 1843 in Stblazey, Cornwall, England.1 John's father was Thomas HENDRA and his mother was Mary BANDS. His paternal grandparents were Christopher HENDRA and Ann HAMPTON; his maternal grandparents are Thomas BANDS and Ann HITCHINS. He had two brothers and two sisters, named Thomas, Christopher, Anne and Elizabeth. He died at the age of 67 on February 17th, 1910 in StCleer, Cornwall, England. John Hendra was born 6 Feb 1843 at St Blazey, Cornwall and was the son of Thomas Hendra and Mary (nee Bands). He was the last born of five children, having two brothers and two sisters. He followed the employment of
many Cornishmen and became a miner. He married Mary Jane Rowe at the Register Office at St Blazey on 8 Sep 1866. Their child, John, was born 15 Nov 1866 and was the firstborn of fifteen. The little lad sadly died at the age of six months. One of the later children died at the age of three but the rest all reached adulthood, many of whom emigrated to the USA and Canada. It has been said that John also went to work for a time in the mines in South Africa and was away when his wife, Mary Ann died in May 1899? His daughter, Candace told how he attended wrestling matches and would come home and describe to the family what happened, often demonstrating the holds etc and that they tried to avoid laughing as he would get upset with them. John survived his wife by almost eleven years. He died 17 Feb 1910. Both he and Mary Ann are buried in the cemetery at St Cleer, Cornwall.
