Jane was born in February 1752.  Jane's father was Henry Skewes and her mother was Margery Behenna.  Her paternal grandparents were Richard Skewes and Mary James. She had a brother and six sisters, named Henry, Elizabeth, Mary, Marjory, Ann, Biddy and Patience.  She was the fourth youngest of the eight children.
