David Norman was born in March 1884 in Keighley, W. Yorkshire.1   David Norman's father was Ira Ickeringill and his mother was Ann Akeroyd.  His paternal grandparents were James Ickeringill and Martha Tatham. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John Crossley, Arthur James, Charles Henry, Ira A., Clifford Stanley, Mary Ann B., Ada Jane and Martha Tatham.  He was the sixth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named John Crossley.  He died at the age of 74 in 1958 in Vancouver, Canada.
