Charles Henry was born in 1878 in Keighley, W. Yorkshire.1   Charles Henry's father was Ira Ickeringill and his mother was Ann Akeroyd.  His paternal grandparents were James Ickeringill and Martha Tatham. He had five brothers and three sisters, named John Crossley, Arthur James, David Norman, Ira A., Clifford Stanley, Mary Ann B., Ada Jane and Martha Tatham.  He was the fourth oldest of the nine children. He had a half-brother named John Crossley.
