Robert was born on July 16th, 1906 in Tillicoultry.¹ Robert's father was Henry Allan and his mother was Isabella Hunter. His paternal grandparents were Henry Allan and Devina Cook; his maternal grandparents were Joseph Hunter and Mary Gray. He had three brothers and six sisters, named Henry, Joseph, Jim, Mary, Catherine (Kate), Ina, Isabella , Jeanie and Elspeth. He was the nineth oldest of the ten children.
