Ruth was born about 1811. Ruth's father was Issac W. Wallis and her mother was Elizabeth Hobson (Wallis). She had six brothers and three sisters, named George, Timothy, Joshep, Billy, Thomas, Isaac, Rachel, Rhoda and Tisha. She was the third oldest of the ten known children.
