Melvin was born on October 8th, 1914 in Tennessee. Melvin's father was Marshell Fred Carroll and his mother was Virgie Sharp (Carroll). His paternal grandparents were Willis Lafayette Carroll and Della M. --- (Carroll); his maternal grandparents were Bedford C. Sharp and Malinda Ann Skelton. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Walton, Alton, Lucile, Edith, Dorothy and Eva. He died at the age of 84 on June 22nd, 1999.
