Jan was born on May 29th, 1710 in Raamsdonk.1  Jan's father was Jan Janszn van Strien and his mother was Anneke Gerritsdr Camp.  His paternal grandparents were Jan Corneliszn van Strien and Eelken Bartholomeus Corneliszn N.N.; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Wouterszn Camp and Cornelia Matijsdr N.N.. He had two brothers and six sisters, named Matthijs, Matthijs, Cornelia, Maria, Elke, Adriaentje, Maria and Geertruida.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
