Willem was born in September 1758 in Amsterdam and his baptism took place on September 15th, 1758 in Amsterdam (Westerkerk).1   His godfather was Andries Sieraat and his godmother was Marijtje Willemsdr van der Schaaf. Willem's father was Jan Willemszn van der Schaaf and his mother was Henrica Gerritsdr Parmentier.  His paternal grandparents were Willem van der Schaaf and Maria Mulders; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Parmentier and Aaltje Pietersdr Wegge. He had four brothers named Gerrit, Jan, Willem and Pieter.  He was the oldest of the five children.  He died before January 12th, 1766 in Amsterdam.1
