Pieter was born in January 1769 in Amsterdam and his baptism took place on January 22nd, 1769 in Amsterdam (Westerkerk).1   His godfather was Josep van der Velde and his godmother was Grietje Willemsdr van der Schaaf. Pieter's father was Jan Willemszn van der Schaaf and his mother was Henrica Gerritsdr Parmentier.  His paternal grandparents were Willem van der Schaaf and Maria Mulders; his maternal grandparents were Gerrit Parmentier and Aaltje Pietersdr Wegge. He had four brothers named Willem, Gerrit, Jan and Willem.  He was the youngest of the five children.  He died at the age of 56 in 1825.
