Greta was born in March 1799 in Capelle (Noord Brabant) and her baptism took place there on March 31st, 1799.1  Greta's father is Jacobus Ramstijn and her mother was Martina Mes.  Her paternal grandparents are Adriaan Ramstyn and Adriana Vissers; her maternal grandparents are Martinus Mes and Adriana van Diemen. She had four brothers and five sisters, named Adriaan, Martinus, Martinus, Cornelis, Johanna, Adriana, Dingena, Cornelia and Geertrui.  She is the sixth oldest of the ten children.
