Dirk was born on February 20th, 1724 in Nieuwaal and his baptism took place on February 20th, 1724 in Gameren.1   His godmother was Lijske Roelofsdr Boom. Dirk's father was Cornelis Thomaszn van de Laar and his mother was Pieternel Dirksdr van der Velde.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas Corneliszn van de Laar and Sara Petersdr van Haaften; his maternal grandparents were Dirk Pierszn van der Velde and Annetje Sijbrantsdr N.N.. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, Peter, Jan, Sybrand, Huijbert, Saerke, Sara and Anna.  He was the second oldest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 79 on April 29th, 1803 in Gameren.1
