Mary was born on April 25th, 1856 in Spring Mire, Worcestershire and her christening took place on May 25th, 1856 at St Thomas, Dudley, Staffordshire.1 Mary's father was James Henry Harper and her mother was Elizabeth Haywood. Her paternal grandparents were James Harper and Sarah Lees; her maternal grandparents were William Haywood and Mary. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Henry, William, Ezekiel, John, Joseph, Sarah, Dinah and Mary. She was the second oldest of the nine children.-
