Sarah was born in 1755 in Bower Chalk, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on November 9th, 1755.1 2   Sarah's father was John Witt and her mother was Jane Frampton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Witt and Jane Windser; her maternal grandparents were Allen Frampton and Jane. She had a brother and seven sisters, named John, Jane, Betty, Ann, Mary, Jane, Lucy and Sarah.  She was the youngest of the nine children.
