Betty was born in 1742 in Bower Chalk, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on January 9th, 1742.1 2   Betty's father was John Witt and her mother was Jane Frampton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Witt and Jane Windser; her maternal grandparents were Allen Frampton and Jane. She had a brother and seven sisters, named John, Jane, Ann, Mary, Jane, Lucy, Sarah and Sarah.  She was the second oldest of the nine children.
