Mary was born in 1745 in Bower Chalk, Wiltshire and her christening took place there on September 15th, 1745.1 2   Mary's father was John Witt and her mother was Jane Frampton.  Her paternal grandparents were John Witt and Jane Windser; her maternal grandparents were Allen Frampton and Jane. She had a brother and seven sisters, named John, Jane, Betty, Ann, Jane, Lucy, Sarah and Sarah.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
