Mary was born in September 1869 in St Lukes, Finsbury, Middlesex.¹

Mary's father was William Henry Turvey and her mother was Jane Louisa Norrington. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Turvey and Ann Kennington; her maternal grandparents were Charles Norrington and Mary Ann Benton. She had three brothers and three sisters, named William, Frank, George, Jane, Ann and Laura. She was the second oldest of the seven children. She died due to natural causes or old age at the age of 88 in February 1958 in Leytonstone, Essex.²
