Sally was born in 1802 in Bursledon, Hampshire and her christening took place on January 17th, 1802 in Botley, Hampshire.1 2   Sally's father was Henry Spencer and her mother was Ann Carter.  Her paternal grandparents were Henry Spencer and Mary Coles. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Henry, George, John, Ann and Eliza.  She was the second oldest of the six children.
