George was born on April 5th, 1807 in Bursledon, Hampshire.1   George's father was Henry Spencer and his mother was Ann Carter.  His paternal grandparents were Henry Spencer and Mary Coles. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Henry, John, Ann, Sally and Eliza.  He was the third youngest of the six children.  He died at the age of 35 in 1842.
