Rebecca was born in June 1863 in Bethnal Green, Middlesex.1   Rebecca's father was Bartholomew Preston and her mother was Rebecca Mary Ann Crouch. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Alfred, Bartholomew, George, Henry, John, Elizabeth, Rosina and Ada.  She was the third oldest of the nine children.
