Joseph was born in 1718 in Newton Toney, Wiltshire and his christening took place there on January 26th, 1718.1 2   Joseph's father was Edward Peck and his mother was Mary Piper.  His maternal grandparents were Benjamin Piper and Barbara Dennett. He had a brother and two sisters, named Edward, Mary and Elizabeth.  He was the second youngest of the four children.
