John was born in 1767 in Kellington, Yorkshire and his christening took place there on November 5th, 1767.1 2   John's father was Thomas Moverley and his mother was Ann Weldrake.  His paternal grandparents were Nicholas Moverley and Mary  Ward. He had a brother and four sisters, named Thomas, Mary, Hannah, Ann and Elizabeth.  He was the oldest of the six children.
