William Kemp

William was born on March 14th, 1815 in Felstead, Essex and his baptism took place there on September 4th, 1815.¹²

William's father was John Kemp and his mother was Elizabeth Bentall. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, George, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, Sarah and Hannah. He was the third oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 47 in 1862.²

  In 1841 possible is William Kemp age rounded down to 20, living possibly with grandparents in Chatham Green, Great Waltham. Great waltham is near Felstead. Samuel 75 and Susan Kemp 70. Samuel is an Ag lab > The railway was built through Shenfield in 1843, and many workers were needed, perhaps that is why William moved from Felstead to Shenfield, as Priest lane where he and his family lived runs along the course of the railway where the workers huts were. see map. > Marriage ref 3Q 1844 Billericay 12 21 I have a copy.
