Frederick was born in March 1854 in Whitechapel, Middlesex.1   Frederick's father was John Horncastle and his mother was Sarah Stockham.  His paternal grandparents were John Daniel Horncastle and Mary Elizabeth Phillips. He had three brothers and a sister, named William, George, John and Eliza.  He was the third oldest of the five children.  He died at the age of 29 in March 1883 in Poplar, Middlesex.2
