John was born on December 27th, 1805 in Barking, Essex and his christening took place on February 9th, 1806 in St Botolph Without Aldgate, London.1 2   John's father was John Horncastle and his mother was Sophia Chaming.  His paternal grandparents were William Horncastle and Sarah. He had two sisters named Sophia and Caroline.  He was the oldest of the three children.  He died at the age of 77 in March 1883 in Mile End, Middlesex.3
