Sophia was born on January 6th, 1808 in Stepney, Middlesex and her christening took place on January 24th, 1808 in St Botolph Without Aldgate, London.1 2   Sophia's father was John Horncastle and her mother was Sophia Chaming.  Her paternal grandparents were William Horncastle and Sarah. She had a brother and a sister, named John and Caroline.  She was the second oldest of the three children.
