Rachel was born in 1761.  Rachel's father was John Browning and her mother was Rachel Girle.  Her paternal grandparents were John Browning and Hannah Judd; her maternal grandparents were Joseph Girle and Sarah Reed. She had six brothers and a sister, named Joseph, Stephen, William, John, Joseph, James and Elizabeth.  She was the second youngest of the eight children.
