Ruchel was born in 1890.  Ruchel's father was Schmil (Samuel) Fern and her mother was Chana Feige Lowenthal.  Her paternal grandparents were Salmen Fern and Golda Rispler; her maternal grandparents were David Lowenthal and Czupa Chupa/Zipora /?. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Hersch Leib, Schlomo Zalman, Jakob, Josef, Chaim, David, Czupa, Scheindel Ester and Ettel Ronie Etka.  She was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  She died at the age of 1 in 1891.
