Hersch Leib was born in 1886.  Hersch Leib's father was Schmil (Samuel) Fern and his mother was Chana Feige Lowenthal.  His paternal grandparents were Salmen Fern and Golda Rispler; his maternal grandparents were David Lowenthal and Czupa Chupa/Zipora /?. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Schlomo Zalman, Jakob, Josef, Chaim, David, Czupa, Ruchel, Scheindel Ester and Ettel Ronie Etka.  He was the second oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 39 in 1925.
