Robert was born in 1778 in Welton East Yorkshire and his baptism took place there on March 30th, 1778.1   Robert's father is Robert Garton and his mother is Rebecca Fox.  His maternal grandfather is Thomas Fox. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, John, Mathew, Thomas and Hannah.  He is the sixth oldest of the seven children.
