John was born in 1768 in Welton East Yorkshire.1   John's father is Robert Garton and his mother is Rebecca Fox.  His maternal grandfather is Thomas Fox. He had five brothers and a sister, named Thomas, William, Mathew, Robert, Thomas and Hannah.  He was the third oldest of the seven children.  He died at the age of 70 on February 10th, 1838 in Welton East Yorkshire Age 70.  His burial was on February 17th, 1838 in Welton East Yorkshire.1 1
