Sarah was born in 1785 in Headingley Leeds Yorkshire and her baptism took place there on July 10th, 1785.1   Sarah's father was William Foster and her mother was Elizabeth (Foster). She had three brothers and four sisters, named Joseph, James, Parker, Elizabeth, Ann, Hannah and Grace.  She is the second oldest of the eight children.
