James was born in 1794 in Headingley Leeds Yorkshire.  James' father was William Foster and his mother was Elizabeth (Foster). He had two brothers and five sisters, named Joseph, Parker, Sarah, Elizabeth, Ann, Hannah and Grace.  He was the sixth oldest of the eight children.  He died on July 29th, 1794.
