Janet's father was Peter Turner Sr. and her mother was Mary Russell.  Her paternal grandparents were William Turner and Jean Russell; her maternal grandparents were John Russell and Isabella Brownlee. She had four brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Archibald, Peter, Jean, Mary, Ann and Agnes.  She was the second youngest of the nine children.  She died at the age of 20 on June 26th, 1852 in Airdrie.  She was buried on July 3rd, 1853 in Shotts.^3 4
