Andrew's father was John Towers and his mother was Agnes Thomson. His paternal grandparents were William Tours and Margaret Colquhoun. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William, John, Walter, Agnes, Maggie, Minnie and Elizabeth. He was the fourth youngest of the eight children. He died from a heart attack, coronary artery thrombosis, at the age of 85 on April 4th, 1969 in Paisley.²
