Jean's father was David Stevenson and her mother was Janet Hamilton.  Her paternal grandparents were William Stevenson and Margaret Patrick. She had seven brothers and three sisters, named William, Robert, John, Joseph, James, James, David, Elisabeth, Margaret and Jean. She had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named John, Margaret and Jessie.  She died at the age of 31 in 1869 in Glasgow.
