Jean was born in September 1685 in Kilsyth and her baptism took place there on September 14th, 1685. Jean's father was William Shaw and her mother was Christian Booth.  Her paternal grandparents were Robert Shaw and Agnes Andersone. She had a brother named William.  She was the older of the two children. She had four half-brothers and three half-sisters, named James, Robert, William, David, Christian, Jean and Agnes.
