Martha's father was Hugh Robertson and her mother was Elizabeth Majorrow. Her paternal grandparents were William Robertson and Isabella Finnie. She had three brothers and six sisters, named William, Hugh, James, Margaret, Isabella, Martha, Mary, Ellen and Euphemia. She was the fourth oldest of the ten children. She died in 1874 in New Cumnock.
