Elizabeth's father was John Robertson and her mother was Agnes Gourlay. Her paternal grandparents were George Robertson and Martha Carlton McGloughlane. She had two brothers and nine sisters, named William, George, Jane, Rachel, Martha, Isabella, Martha, Mary, Agnes, Euphemia and Margaret. She was the second youngest of the twelve children. She died at the age of 68 in 1940 in Tarbolton.
