Janet's father was James Forbes Pollock and her mother was Janet Donald. Her maternal grandparents were William Donald and Janet Towers. She had five brothers and two sisters, named James, William, Robert, David, Andrew, Lillias and Agnes. She was the oldest of the eight children. She died at the age of 21 in 1905 in Tradeston.
